Asian Screen Institute College enters into a student contract (following the standard SSG student contract) with every student. The student contract indicates the detailed breakdown of total fees payable by the student together with the payment schedule, as well as other conditions and agreements that relate to the programme of study.

In addition, students are required to sign an advisory note (based on a standard SSG template) prior to signing the student contract to ensure that they have understood and agreed to all the terms of the contract.

The EduTrust Certification Scheme (EduTrust) is a quality assurance scheme administered and governed by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) for Private Education Institutions (PEIs) in Singapore. 

The SSG functions independently as the regulatory authority of the private education industry in Singapore and is responsible for all decisions under the EduTrust Certification Scheme. SSG aims to raise the standards of the industry to ensure PEIs provide a higher standard of educational services and good student/ graduate outcomes.

The Fee Protection Scheme – Group (FPS – Group) is administered by the SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) to protect the course fees paid by students.

As a Private Education Institution (PEI) with EduTrust certification, Asian Screen Institute is allowed to collect up to twelve months of course fees at any one time. All course fees collected during the period of indemnity are insured under the Fee Protection Scheme – Group.  This excludes administration fees, miscellaneous fees and prevailing Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Students at Asian Screen Institute are assured that their school fees are protected at all times and can check their FPS status with the school or the SSG-appointed insurance company, Lonpac Insurance Bhd. For further information, students may refer to the SSG website here.

Graduation

Students’ academic performance is assessed throughout the programme. A student must fulfil the minimum attendance requirement, obtain a pass for every module and have no outstanding fees or unreturned property of the school in order to graduate from the programme.

Exemption

Exemption may be granted for a module if a student can demonstrate that he/she has learned and understand the content of that module through previous study or professional experience, deemed substantially equivalent to Asian Screen Institute. For an exemption to be considered, a student must have obtained at least a pass grade in a specified modules and must be taken less than ten years from the date of application.

Asian Screen Institute reserves the right to recognise only certain qualifications and institutions for exemption and to contact the awarding institution to verify students’ qualifications.

Exempted modules will not count towards the unit or course requirement for the course. The maximum number credit units of all the modules granted for exemption must not exceed 35% of the total credit units required to complete the course.

It is the responsibility of the student to submit certified copy of the academic transcript: module outline and other official documentation giving sufficient details of the studies to allow an assessment of the application. All supporting documentation must be in English, including certified translations where appropriate.

Applications for module exemption should be submitted to Asian Screen Institute at least 8 weeks prior to the commencement of a particular term in the academic year. Student has to complete an application form, which can be obtained by contacting The Admission Office (admin@iano160.sg-host.com) together with all required documents.

KEY POINTS

  • The School manages refunds for students fairly and transparently under various conditions.
  • Refunds are processed within a maximum of 7 working days upon receipt of a withdrawal or refund request.
  • The School will communicate the refund policy and computation clearly to all students, including prospective students.

Termination and Refund Policy

The school will notify the student within three (3) working days upon knowledge of any of the following Refund Events:

  1. PEI fails, for any reason, to commence the Course on the Course Commencement Date;*
  2. PEI terminates the Course, for any reason, prior to the Course Commencement Date;
  3. PEI fails, for any reason, to complete the Course by the Course Completion Date;
  4. PEI terminates the Course, for any reason, prior to Course Completion Date; or
  5. The Student’s Pass application is rejected by Immigration and Checkpoint Authority (ICA).

If any of the Refund Events above occur:

  1. The PEI will make reasonable efforts to propose alternative study arrangements in writing within 10 working days of notifying the Student of the Refund Event.
  2. If the Student agrees to the proposed arrangements, a new written agreement will be prepared, and this existing contract will end once the new agreement takes effect.
  3. If no alternative arrangements are proposed within the 10 working days, or if the Student does not accept the proposed arrangements, the Student may terminate this contract by giving written notice to the PEI.

Refund for Withdrawal During Cooling-Off Period

Cooling-off period refers to the period of ten (10) calendar days commencing from and including the date of the PEI-Student Contract.

The Student may cancel the contract at any time during the Cooling-Off Period by giving written notice to the PEI. The PEI will refund all Course Fees and Miscellaneous Fees paid within seven (7) working days of receiving the notice.

Refund for Withdrawal Outside Cooling-Off Period

The Student may cancel the contract at any time before the course ends by giving written notice to the PEI. The PEI will process any refund, based on the refund schedule below, within seven (7) working days of receiving the notice.

Termination due to Non-Payment of School Fees

The PEI may cancel the contract at any time before the course ends if the Student fails to pay their fees more than 30 days after the due date stated in their PEI-Student Contract.

Type

Definition

Transfer (Mode of Study)

Student changes the mode of study (from full-time to part-time or vice versa) but remains as a student of the School. International students may not apply for Course Transfer (Mode of Study) as a Student Pass is only granted for full-time studies

Deferment

Student temporarily stops his / her studies with the intention to resume in a future term. It is normally granted on a term-by-term basis. International students are not eligible for course deferment

Withdrawal (Without Cause)

Student on his / her own accord decides to terminate his studies after the commencement of the course where there is no refund of course fee involved. Withdrawal where refund is involved is covered under the “Refunds” tab.

Student-Initiated Extension

Student requires a longer period to complete his / her studies beyond the stipulated end date. This typically occurs when a student wishes to carry a lighter academic load in order to manage personal or learning challenges

Student-Initiated Acceleration

Student accelerates the course duration ahead of the stipulated end date. This typically occurs when a student is able to carry a heavy study load without any negative implication on learning outcomes

Transfer (Course of study)

Student changes his / her course of study but remains as a student of the School

Definition:  Student changes the mode of study (from full-time to part-time or vice versa) but remains as a student of the School. International students may not apply for Course Transfer (Mode of Study) as a Student Pass is only granted for full-time studies.

A student intending to make the above mentioned changes to their studies must submit a completed Student Request Form for Changes to Course of Study via the Student Services Portal. Verbal requests are not accepted. The School will process all requests within four (4) weeks from the point of a student’s request to informing the student of the outcome in writing. The request is subject to the Principal’s approval. The School reserves the right to reject applications if it is not able to offer the modules or course to the student arising from the requested change. The School will issue a new contract or an addendum to the existing contract within one (1) week of a course transfer (mode of study request being approved. The school will obtain the parent’s/legal guardian’s written consent if the student is under 18 years of age.

Conditions for Approval:
The following are some of the circumstances under which the transfer (mode of study) can be considered:

  • Change in personal circumstances that significantly affect the student’s ability to attend classes
  • Medical conditions that affect the student’s ability to continue in the original course
  • Availability of modules in the new type of study

The School and/or Course Manager will interview the student to understand the reasons for the transfer (mode of study) and explain the academic, administrative and immigration implications (if applicable).

A processing fee of S$54.50 is payable upon submission of the transfer (mode of study) request (non-refundable).

A course transfer (mode of study) fee of S$109.00 is payable upon approval of the request.

  • Medical reasons supported by official documentation
  • National Service enlistment or call-up
  • Unavoidable work commitments or personal circumstances that significantly affect the student’s ability to attend classes

The request must be submitted at least four (4) weeks before the start of the upcoming term. Supporting documents (e.g. medical certificates, enlistment letters, employer letters) must be attached to the application. The School and/or Course Manager will interview the student to understand the reasons for the deferment and explain the academic and administrative implications.

A processing fee of S$54.50 is payable upon submission of the deferment request (non-refundable).A course deferment fee of S$109.00 is payable upon approval of the request.



Definition: Student on his / her own accord decides to terminate his studies after the commencement of the course where there is no refund of course fee involved. Withdrawal where refund is involved is covered in Refunds

Withdrawal without cause occurs when the student on his own accord decides to terminate his studies after the commencement of the course where there is no refund of course fee involved.

Process

  • A student intending to discontinue their studies within the school will be required to apply for a Course Withdrawal in writing by filling in the Student Request Form for Changes to Course of Study – Withdrawal via the Student Services Portal. Verbal requests are not accepted.
  • The Course Manager will interview the student and document their reasons for discontinuing their studies. The request will then be forwarded to the Principal for final approval.
  • The Principal may interview the student on a case-by-case basis to understand the reason for withdrawal.
  • Students will have to settle any outstanding school fees and return all school property before withdrawal.
  • For international students, the school will cancel the student pass immediately upon approval and the student will have to return home within the period stipulated by ICA arising from the cancellation.

Maximum Processing Time

The maximum processing time from the point of the student’s request to informing the student of the outcome in writing will be not more than 4 weeks.



Definition: Student requires a longer period to complete his / her studies beyond the stipulated end date. This typically occurs when a student wishes to carry a lighter academic load in order to manage personal or learning challenges

Course extension refers to a request to extend the course duration beyond the stipulated end date. This typically occurs when a student wishes to carry a lighter academic load in order to manage personal or learning challenges.

Course extensions may be:

  • Student-initiated, where the student applies for an extension due to personal circumstances or academic challenges; or
  • School-initiated, where the Course Manager recommends an extension based on the student’s academic progress or capacity to manage workload.

Criteria

The following are some of the circumstances under which the student-initiated extension can be considered:

  • The student is struggling with workload and requires more time to complete the course
  • The student has received academic intervention or counselling indicating a lighter study load is appropriate
  • The Course Manager deems an extension necessary for the student to achieve course learning outcomes

Process

  • A student must submit a completed Student Request Form for Changes to Course of Study via the Student Services Portal. Verbal requests are not accepted. 
  • The student must pay the processing fee of S$54.50 (inclusive of GST) before the request is processed by the school.
  • If the process is initiated by the Course Manager, no processing fee is required.
  • Approval will be based on the recommendation of the Course Manager and granted by the Principal
  • If unsuccessful, the processing fee will not be refunded.
  • The request must be submitted at least four (4) weeks before the start of the upcoming term.

Maximum Processing Time
The maximum processing time from the point of the student’s request to informing the student of the outcome in writing will be not more than 4 weeks.

Definition: Student accelerates the course duration ahead of the stipulated end date. This typically occurs when a student is able to carry a heavy study load without any negative implication on learning outcome

Course acceleration refers to a student-initiated request or a school-initiated recommendation to accelerate the course duration ahead of the stipulated end date. This typically occurs when a student is able to carry a heavy study load without any negative implication on learning outcomes.

Course accelerations may be:

  • Student-initiated, where the student applies for an acceleration based on personal circumstances and ability; or
    School-initiated, where the Course Manager recommends an acceleration based on the student’s academic progress or capacity to manage workload.


Criteria
The following are some of the circumstances under which the student-initiated extension can be considered:

  • The student is able and willing to cope with the additional workload without any negative implication on course learning outcomes
  • The student has maintained good conduct throughout the course
  • The student has passed all modules at the first attempt up to the date of the request for course acceleration
  • The Course Manager deems an acceleration is an acceptable option without any negative implication on course learning outcomes


Process

  • A student must submit a completed Student Request Form for Changes to Course of Study via the Student Services Portal. Verbal requests are not accepted.
  • The student must pay the processing fee of S$54.50 (inclusive of GST) before the request is processed by the school.
  • If the process is initiated by the Course Manager, no processing fee is required.
  • Approval will be based on the recommendation of the Course Manager and granted by the Principal
  • If unsuccessful, the processing fee will not be refunded.
  • The request must be submitted at least four (4) weeks before the start of the upcoming term.

Maximum Processing Time

The maximum processing time from the point of the student’s request to informing the student of the outcome in writing will be not more than 4 weeks.

Defintion: A course transfer is when a student changes his course of study but remains as a student of the School.

Criteria

Some of the circumstances under which a course transfer can be considered are:

  1. Change in the interest of the student
  2. Medical conditions that affect the student’s ability to continue in the original course
  3. The aptitude of the student for the new course


Process

  • A student intending to transfer to a different course of study must submit a completed Student Request Form for Changes to Course of Study via the Student Services Portal. Verbal requests are not accepted. 
  • The student must pay the processing fee of S$54.50 (inclusive of GST) before the request is processed by the school.
  • Approval will be based on the recommendation of the Course Manager and granted by the Principal
  • If successful, the student must pay the applicable Course Transfer (Course of Study) Fee of S$218.00 (inclusive of GST) before the request is processed further.
  • If unsuccessful, the processing fee will not be refunded.
  • For international students, the school will cancel the student pass and apply for a new one. The new Students’ Pass is subject to the approval of the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA).


Maximum Processing Time

The maximum processing time from the point of the student’s request to informing the student of the outcome in writing will be not more than 4 weeks.
