Course Description

This course is an introduction to the exciting world of live sound engineering. You will learn the fundamentals of operating digital mixers and setting up sound reinforcement systems, from signal routing and channel processing to effects utilisation and system calibration. You will gain hands-on experience with industry-standard digital consoles and develop the technical skills needed to excel in this field.

In addition to learning digital console operation, you will learn how to set up and optimise sound reinforcement systems for small to medium events. You will learn to consider factors such as room acoustics, speaker placement, and audience coverage when setting up your sound system. You will also learn how to work with wired and wireless audio equipment, so you can handle various audio connections and be ready to troubleshoot common issues that may arise during live performances.

By the end of this course, you will have a solid foundation in live sound engineering with the knowledge and skills to get started in this exciting career.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Develop a comprehensive understanding of digital mixing consoles and their functionalities, including signal routing, channel processing, effects utilization, and automation.
Gain proficiency in operating digital mixing consoles for both Front-of-House (FOH) and monitoring management, ensuring optimal sound reinforcement during live performances.
Acquire the necessary skills to set up live sound for small to medium events, considering factors such as venue acoustics, speaker placement, and audience coverage.
Demonstrate the ability to work with wired and wireless audio equipment, including audio connections, troubleshooting techniques, and system optimization.

Entry Requirements

Applicants are required to the meet the following criteria:

Applicants should have basic awareness of audio systems.
Have at least 1 GCE N Level subject pass OR
Be able to read, write and speak English at WSQ Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 5 and able to manipulate numbers at WSQ Workplace Numeracy (WPN) Level 5

Certification

Participants who have successfully completed the course will receive the following:

SkillsFuture WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA) in MED-MPN-3044-1.1 Sound Recording Operations
Certificate of Completion from the School.
